Some schools use plus/minus grading (like B+ at 87-89%) or shift the cutoffs slightly, so always check your syllabus or school handbook for the exact scale your class uses. This calculator uses the standard scale to show a reference letter grade alongside your percentage.
Add every assignment, quiz, and test as a row of points earned out of points possible. The calculator adds up all the points you earned and divides by the total points possible, giving you an overall percentage. This works well for classes that grade on a simple total-points system rather than weighted categories.
If your final exam counts for a fixed percentage of your total grade, your final course grade is a blend of your current grade and your final exam score: finalCourseGrade = currentGrade × (1 - finalWeight) + finalScore × finalWeight. Rearranging that equation to solve for the score you need gives:
For example, if you currently have an 85%, want to finish with a 90%, and the final is worth 25% of your grade, you would need to score (90 - 85 × 0.75) / 0.25 = 95% on the final.
Sometimes the math says you need more than 100% on the final, meaning your target grade is out of reach no matter how well you do, or that even a 0% would still leave you above your target. This calculator flags both situations so you know where you stand and can plan accordingly, such as asking about extra credit or adjusting your goal.
